Nurse Extern Program: This unique 8-week
program allows graduating nursing students to expand
their clinical knowledge in a true nursing
environment. Nurse externs are
supported by our nursing staff and are
under the direct guidance of a nursing preceptor.
This valuable experience allows each student to
practice appropriate nursing skills in a challenging,
yet rewarding, environment.

Performance Based Development System (PBDS): PBDS is a customized clinical assessment process
designed to enhance our Associate’s ability to
perform their job with the strongest skill set and
to continue professional growth in a positive
environment. PBDS is an internationally known
assessment tool used by over half of all
Magnet hospitals for newly hired RNs, LVNs and
LPNs. CSR utilizes PBDS to determine the
developmental needs of each new nurse. And each
nurse is provided with education, mentoring and
coaching to help them reach their true potential and
desired professional goals.

Continuing Education Program: CSR offers free
continuing education courses so you can attain or maintain
your certification and stay abreast of advancements in your
specialty.

Academic Partnerships: As part of a
collaborative team, CSR provides you with a
continual learning environment through its academic
partnerships. CSR Children’s
Hospital is the only pediatric academic
hospital in San Antonio and is affiliated with The University of
Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Through
our academic settings, you can deliver a higher level
of care to your patients while achieving a
heightened level of understanding of your
